National Guard Products was founded by Charles Smith Sr. in 1935 as a local manufacturer of steel window guards in Memphis, TN. Originally known by the name Memphis Window Guard Company, NGP eventually morphed into a nationally known manufacturer of commercial door hardware products, including thresholds, gasketing, lite kits, and louvers. NGP moved into a custom-built modern manufacturing location in 1997, leaving the only building the company had ever known. But the move was long overdue, and soon NGP grew to the point that two separate additions were necessary to house the current operation. With 160,000 square feet of modern manufacturing space, NGP can deliver the service and quality its customers have come to expect. NGP is dedicated to manufacturing the finest commercial door hardware products available, and that means working closely with independent organizations to ensure the highest quality possible. All of NGP’s fire-rated products have been tested and listed by Underwriters Laboratories, including IBC Part I and Part II for positive pressure. Their ADA compliant products meet and exceed the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines. As well, NGP personnel helped develop the American National Standard for thresholds and gasketing. Working closely with the Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association, NGP personnel were instrumental in developing ANSI/BHMA certification for commercial thresholds and gasketing.
